Aging pipes doesn’t stop this active community

Property owners in a 55+ active community in Southern California were experiencing issues with their sewer system. Built in the 1960s, the original houses in the community suffered sewer backups every couple of months. Corrosion and blockages were causing pipe failure, so the property owners association began to look for options to fix the aging cast iron pipe system.

Pipe replacement required excavating the roads in front of the houses. This was not only highly destructive, but it would have taken weeks to complete and was very costly. Other pipe lining companies proposed pipe bursting and inversion lining methods. These methods were less destructive than pipe replacement, but still required digging up the front yards of each of the houses. With approximately 25 houses in the area affected by the corrosion, the time and headache of destruction was a nightmare for the retirement community and its elderly residents. Finally, they reached out to SPT who presented a plan to line the pipes using a pull-in-place installation method. The process didn’t require digging up any of the road or landscaping and was half of the price of pipe replacement.

The SPT lining technicians got to work to line the pipes in place. After a thorough inspection to locate and map all of the problem areas, they cleaned the pipes to eliminate any blockages and debris. The team then lined each of the sewer lines using existing access points in the plumbing system, sometimes adding a new cleanout to allow better access. They pulled an epoxy saturated liner into the pipe including through multiple bends in the pipe network. Once the liner was in place an inflatable bladder expanded to push the liner to the walls of the host pipe. The epoxy resin then cured to create a structurally strong “pipe within a pipe”. The new pipe provides a long-term repair that withstands corrosion and root infiltration.

SPT’s method of cured in place pipe lining repaired the system in the most efficient and cost-effective manner. Now the property owners can get back to their daily activities with the peace of mind that the problem is solved for good.
